Did you know that Attends were the very first adult incontinence product in North America? Launched in 1980, they were the first body-worn disposable briefs to be marketed here.
As the pioneer in this product category, Attends helped to remove some of the negative stigma associated with incontinence. Prior to disposable incontinence products, people were wearing thick terry cloth like underwear that was bulky, uncomfortable, and ineffective in both neutralizing the pH and absorbing liquids. The odor control was terrible and being incontinent meant being confined to your home or room in a seniors residence.
41 years later, Attends is still around. As a major manufacturer, they have been purchased and sold many times over the years, and still continue to play a large role in the adult incontinence market. As a matter of fact, they were sold again in 2020 and just went through a rebranding. Overall the future looks bright, and their products’ absorbent core continues to improve in terms of not only absorbency but also comfort. Attends’ vision is to manufacture a product so thin that it feels like you’re just slipping on regular underwear, but with a fast enough absorption rate to keep you dry.
The goal is to one day have a hard time telling the difference between regular underwear and absorbent underwear. Definite progress!
